Cashless payment is convenient. Take the restaurant business, for example: a representative survey by YouGov conducted in January 2025 found that 55% of German visitors to restaurants prefer contactless payment by card, mobile or QR code in the restaurant; among those under 45, the figure is 73%. METRO's digital subsidiary DISH, which is driving the digitalisation of the hospitality industry with digital services and solutions, is launching a new, easy-to-implement payment product. It is the first technical device in METRO's own-brand range and is available in METRO wholesale stores and online at the METRO marketplace. The DISH Pay Now hardware, developed by DISH, consists of a lightweight and portable payment device and a free charging station. The device is based on a budget-friendly overall concept that simplifies payment processes and makes them easy to understand.
DISH Pay Now is not only an ideal solution for the gastronomy industry, but also for other services or small traders from hairdressers to weekly market stall holders. There are no fixed monthly fees for use; instead, entrepreneurs only pay per transaction and can rely on fast, reliable and consistent payouts to their business account. DISH works with a trusted payment partner that ensures payouts are made quickly within the next business day. In addition, payment transactions are easy to track, which, among other things, makes accounting easier. Anyone who wants to track individual payment details or payouts can find all the information they need in the compact, digital, personal DISH Pay dashboard. DISH Pay Now is an uncomplicated payment option with tap-to-pay functionality, where customers can also select the percentage of the tip directly on the card reader. Paperless invoicing is no longer a problem either – digital receipts can be provided for transactions via QR code or email if desired.
DISH Pay Now is an important milestone for METRO's subsidiary DISH. So far, the digital unit has focused purely on the digitalisation of the hospitality industry, but it has now developed a digital payment solution that appeals not only to restaurateurs but also to METRO's other important target group of small independent retailers and self-employed entrepreneurs. Thanks to distribution via METRO stores, the new product also contributes to the multichannel distribution model and connects a digital service with the local core business.

DISH Pay Now is to be available from February 2025 in local METRO and Makro stores in Germany and France, and from March in Italy and the Netherlands. Further countries are already in the pipeline.
