ACME with Stadt Land Fluss & Kieran Landscape Design convinced the jury with a coherent concept that clearly highlights the development potential of the METRO Campus area and creates an urban, diversified quarter that harmoniously combines living, retail and leisure. The expert jury, consisting of renowned architects, urban planners and landscape architects, representatives of METRO PROPERTIES as well as Düsseldorf politicians and administrators, selected the winner in a meeting today.

The 2nd place went to Lorber Paul Architekten with Prof. Rolf-Egon Westerheide and club l94 landschaftsarchitekten, the recognition award went to caspar.schmitzmorkramer with Schellenberg + Bäumler Architekten & Studio grüngrau Landschaftsarchitektur.

“Due to the extremely positive experience, we again initiated an urban planning competition with the city of Düsseldorf. The conceptual task was definitely a challenge for the participating architects, urban planners, and landscape architects. We are very pleased that ACME with Stadt Land Fluss & Kieran Fraser Landscape Design won the competition. The winning design builds a good basis for the future design of the METRO Campus area. An urban quarter could be created here that could lead the METRO Campus into the future under all aspects of sustainability, the challenges of climate change, changed mobility requirements and demographic developments our society faces.”, said Jürgen Schwarze, Chief Financial Officer of METRO PROPERTIES and member of the jury.

The METRO Campus of the future will combine living and working space, mixed with retail, gastronomy, local recreation, and leisure. The aim is to create a diversified and lively urban quarter in the middle of the Düsseldorf metropolitan region.

"I was thrilled by the committed results of the competition. I would like to thank the teams once again for this. With the winning design, the jury has awarded a forward-looking concept that provides excellent special features for the area. Here we have the chance for a new kind of mixed-use neighbourhood development with housing, work and trade. In addition to the exciting urban and architectural structures, high quality open spaces and complementary infrastructure facilities such as schools, day-care centres and nursing homes will form a lively quarter. We can all look forward to a trend-setting quarter of the future in Düsseldorf," says Cornelia Zuschke, the City of Düsseldorf's Commissioner for Planning, Building, Mobility and Real Estate.

The award-winning design will serve as the basis for the subsequent urban land-use planning process. Citizens will be involved in this process as soon as possible.

All 6 works will be shown online at dialog.metro-campus.de for the interested public.
