METRO Serbia opens new logistics and distribution centre
18 November 2024At the end of last week, METRO Serbia opened a state-of-the-art logistics and distribution centre in Dobanovci. Covering an area of 15,000 square metres, a modern depot with four temperature zones has been built that meets international standards and is precisely tailored to the requirements of the food wholesale business. With the opening of the new centre, which employs a total of 110 people, METRO Serbia not only ensures improved availability of its wide range of products, but also enables faster and more efficient deliveries throughout the country. This investment is therefore an important step towards sustainable growth for METRO Serbia, enabling the company to better serve the increasing needs of its growing customer base. By using environmentally friendly technologies for the cooling systems, METRO Serbia is also actively contributing to a lower environmental impact.
‘As the first focused wholesaler to have been operating in Serbia for almost 20 years, our aim is to provide even stronger support for restaurateurs and independent retailers. We offer our customers high-quality and customised solutions, services and a wide range of national and international quality products. With the opening of our new logistics and distribution centre, we want to take an important step on the path of joint growth and development in the years to come,’ said Nadir Kadji, CEO of METRO Serbia, at the opening.
METRO has been active in the Serbian market since 2005 and operates a total of 9 stores in Belgrade, Niš, Kragujevac, Novi Sad, Požarevac, Šabac and Palić. On its way to becoming a focused wholesaler, METRO Serbia has undergone a comprehensive transformation process in recent years. All stores are now aligned with the strategic multi-channel approach and consistently focused on the needs of professional customers. Another building block of the strategy is METRO's ‘Jutro’ franchise programme, which was developed specifically for small, independent retailers. The programme offers the owners of smaller retail stores the opportunity to develop their business and make it more sustainable and profitable.
The expansion and professionalisation of the logistics network supports the group-wide strategy with which METRO has set itself the ambitious goal of expanding Food Service Distribution (FSD) as the biggest growth driver within its multichannel business model and tripling delivery sales by 2030.
