‘DISH Dine’: METRO subsidiary launches new online portal for gastronomy

08 October 2024

DISH Dine helps guests to quickly find restaurants in their area, make a table reservation or order food, all in one place

DISH Dine: online portal for gastronomy
  • For restaurateurs, the portal improves online visibility and supports the marketing of their own restaurant
  • At launch, over 30,000 restaurants from all large and medium-sized German cities are listed; available service features depend on the individual offerings of the restaurant
  • The basic listing is free of charge for DISH customers and complements existing online tools such as DISH Reservation, DISH Order and DISH Website
  • METRO customers can also be listed upon request and after data verification

METRO's subsidiary DISH, which offers online services for the digitalisation of the hospitality industry in 16 countries, is expanding its offering and launching its own search portal, DISH Dine. DISH Dine is starting in Germany as a pilot market with over 30,000 listed hospitality businesses that already use DISH tools. Their individual offers are transferred to the portal for better online visibility – at no additional cost. The advantages: restaurant guests can quickly and easily search for restaurants, cafes and snack bars in their local area, view their contact details and menus, and reserve tables or order and pick up food and drinks, subject to availability.

For the more than 30,000 existing DISH customers in Germany, this means a free listing on a professional restaurant portal. Unlike the major delivery services, not only are large cities covered, but many classic restaurants are also represented that offer take-out but not delivery. Restaurateurs do not incur any commission fees when guests use the portal. The new offering is particularly interesting for DISH Order and DISH Reservation Bundle customers, as DISH Dine can be used to generate additional leads for orders and reservations. The new portal thus supports the online marketing of restaurants on the one hand and at the same time the success of the DISH solutions which have already been implemented. From the guests' point of view, the portal simplifies the search for gastronomic offers on the internet and bundles the options for table reservations and online orders on one platform.

And this is how it works: guests go to DISH Dine and select on the landing page whether they want to reserve a table, order food for takeout or have food delivered. They can then select specific restaurants or favourite cuisine types in their area. Payment is made directly to the restaurant upon delivery or pick-up. Dr Volker Gläser, CEO of DISH Digital Solutions: ‘We see ourselves as being in close partnership with restaurateurs and we know where they need to take action. Promoting their own online marketing is definitely one of them. With DISH Dine, we want to make it easier for them to improve their online visibility without them having to invest time and money. That's why we are launching a portal where a basic presence is free of charge and they automatically receive a basic profile from us.’

Digital transformation is one of the major challenges that the hospitality industry is facing today – especially in view of the industry's shortage of skilled workers and an overall increase in cost pressure. METRO's subsidiary DISH has been addressing this challenge since 2017 by developing digital solutions and services for restaurateurs. The easy-to-use tools for online reservations, orders or a customised website are designed for the demanding day-to-day business in the restaurant industry and help save time and money. DISH products impress with fair fixed-price offers, while other models on the market are calculated on a commission basis and can therefore be cost-intensive, for example with fees per online table reservation or percentage fees for online orders.
