METRO’s B2B online marketplace, specialised in hospitality non-food offers, is continuing its international expansion by entering Croatia and expanding into Canary Island in Spain.

Upon the launch of this new marketplace, Croatian customers will gain access to about 7,000 non-food products from METRO as well as 9 sellers across categories such as professional catering equipment, furniture, outdoor and BBQ solutions, tableware, cleaning product.

Croatia has thus become the 7th country within METRO where the B2B online marketplace operates as an integral part of the wholesaler’s multichannel strategy. By adding a new digital sales channel to complement the company’s in-store and food distribution operations, METRO Croatia is now able to offer hospitality professionals enhanced convenience and access to a broader non-food assortment through a single trusted platform.

METRO Croatia’s sales and customer teams, together with stores, will actively support customers to unlock the full value of the extended assortment and services at the marketplace.

With the new marketplace, METRO Croatia is further strengthening its multichannel capability and thus consolidating its position as one of the most important partners for the hospitality operators. METRO Croatia currently serves about 24,000 HoReCa customers with 10 stores and delivery service across the country where tourism typically draws more than 20 million visitors each year for the prosperous hospitality industry.

Roll-out to the Canary Islands

Meanwhile, the online marketplace has also expanded its presence within Spain, where it entered already in 2021, by launching the service for all 7 Canary Islands. This marks a new chapter in the marketplace’s successful operations in Spain, serving customers in a region where hospitality is a key economic driver, serving 2.3 million residents and approximately 19 million tourists annually.
The launch initially provides more than 3,000 own brand non-food products for the professional gastro operators across 7 Canary Islands. The new digital platform will now focus on customer adoption, seller engagement and assortment growth while leveraging the experience gained in the mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands.

METRO Marketplace was established in 2019 as METRO’s international non-food online platform for HoReCa customers. It is an integral part of METRO’s multichannel strategy and digital business capability. Currently it is operative in 7 European countries - Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and Croatia. A total of around 1,300 partners are active on the online marketplaces, offering around 1.64 million products for professionals.
