  • METRO LOGISTICS took over the central warehouse function for the German beverage and food delivery service flaschenpost on 1 March
  • The METRO LOGISTICS sites in Marl and Groß-Gerau serve as storage and handling centres for the more than 30 national flaschenpost hubs with the aim of consolidating the flow of goods

flaschenpost's food segment covers almost all product ranges, including ultra-fresh, fresh produce, fruit and vegetables and dry goods. With six different temperature zones, its own quality management system and the implementation of the highest quality and hygiene standards, METRO LOGISTICS offers comprehensive services for the handling of temperature-controlled goods. While the ultra-fresh platform in Groß-Gerau is responsible for handling meat and sausage products, the other food categories are stored and handled at the Marl logistics centre.

By 2025, up to 1,000 pallets a day are to be picked, handled and dispatched via the two logistics sites. Over-night cross-docking and pick-2-zero processes will also be mapped. The organisation, handling and implementation of shuttle transports to the flaschenpost hubs are also part of METRO LOGISTICS' range of services.

"We are delighted to be able to offer flaschenpost a complete solution with our comprehensive expertise in food logistics. We are implementing this in our multi-user logistics centre in Marl, which is ideally located in relation to the more than 30 flaschenpost hubs in Germany and is one of the largest retail logistics centres in Germany with 235,000 square metres. In this way, we are helping our customer to optimise its supply chain and support further growth," says Arnd Stoehr, Managing Director of METRO LOGISTICS.

With this long-term cooperation, the two logistics companies will be joining forces in the future: "We are looking forward to working with our new partner METRO LOGISTICS, who will help us to consolidate our flow of goods and reduce the complexity of our supply chain," says Christopher Messina, Director Supply Chain Management at flaschenpost. "Our aim is to optimise the availability of goods and achieve greater scalability with a view to future developments. With the new central warehouse, we are able to map an integrated end-2-end supply chain at flaschenpost, from the manufacturer to the end customer. Our national warehouse locations can be supplied with goods within 12 to 18 hours. The flexibility and realisation strength in planning are particularly noteworthy. flaschenpost is known for its data-driven and dynamic processes, and our expectations were met within a few months with the go-live of the central warehouse in Marl."
