METRO MARKETS opens new warehouse in Spain

MAKRO, the Spanish subsidiary of METRO and a leading multi-channel wholesaler for the hotel and catering industry in Spain, has opened a new warehouse in Azuqueca de Henares (Guadalajara) to further expand its online marketplace business. The warehouse will be operated by METRO's e-commerce subsidiary METRO MARKETS. It replaces the previous warehouse and enables a significant expansion of operational capacity. The aim is to strengthen the distribution network for non-food products throughout the Spanish mainland, the Balearic Islands and Portugal.

With an area of over 19,000 m2, the new warehouse offers space for around 3,600 non-food items, most of which are METRO own brands. Customers are particularly interested in equipment for commercial kitchens, catering utensils, furniture and consumables such as cleaning agents and packaging.

The warehouse is equipped with a specially developed management system that controls all logistics processes and can be flexibly adapted to specific requirements. Modern technologies such as mobile packaging stations and semi-automatic strapping machines ensure efficient and ergonomic processes.

Thanks to the strategic location in Azuqueca de Henares, customers benefit from faster delivery times: orders can be delivered within 24 hours, and within 48 hours for bulky products and in certain regions. MAKRO is thus improving customer benefits and helping catering businesses to access important equipment quickly and reliably.

The opening of the new warehouse is part of METRO's strategic growth and transformation strategy sCore, which focuses on a multichannel business model tailored to the needs of the HORECA sector, with digitalisation as a core element. The B2B online marketplace METRO MARKETS is currently already represented in all six leading European HORECA countries – Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal – which account for around 60% of METRO's total HoReCa potential, and increased its revenue by around 50% year-on-year in the last financial year. A total of around 2,400 partners are active on the online marketplace, offering around 1,335,000 professional products.
