Long-standing partnership with the German association of food banks renewed

METRO extends its partnership with 'Tafel Deutschland e.V.'

Since 2006, METRO AG has supported the umbrella organisation of local food banks, which includes a total of 940 food bank organisations throughout Germany, and provides financial resources for the operation of a professional organisational structure. By extending the contract, METRO wants to continue this successful partnership in the future and contribute to the important social role of the food banks.

 

"The food banks make an important contribution to supporting people in need and preventing food waste in Germany. We are proud to support the important work of Tafel Deutschland e.V. and want to express our special appreciation for the work of the Tafel movement by continuing our partnership. In addition, the prevention of food waste is also a central element of METRO's sustainability strategy,' says Ivonne Bollow, Senior Vice President Corporate Responsibility & Public Policy.

The cooperation between METRO and Tafel Deutschland e.V. goes far beyond financial support. The individual METRO stores in Germany work closely with the respective local food bank organisations and donate surplus food across the board. In this way, METRO helps to ensure that food is not thrown away but distributed to people in need.

METRO is committed to sustainable and responsible management and is involved in various areas of society. The group has committed itself to reducing food waste in its own operations by 50 percent by 2025. The extension of the sponsorship agreement with Tafel Deutschland e.V. is an important step towards achieving this goal.
