MAKRO Spain boosts FSD capability in Canary Islands
07 October 2025
The opening of the new Food Service Distribution (FSD) facility, situated in La Laguna, Tenerife, marks an important milestone in the company’s multi-channel strategy and continuous build-up of the FSD network nationwide. It is the wholesale company’s 1st dedicated FSD warehouse in the Canary Islands and it enables full coverage of all hospitality customers across Tenerife with enhanced efficiency and reduced delivery time.
With a space of 3,000 m2 and six loading bays, the new facility provides a distribution capacity of up to 900 orders per day to the hospitality customers on the island, significantly strengthening its FSD capability. Its multi-temperature space allows for storage of over 1,800 pallets of dry, refrigerated, frozen and ultra-fresh products. About 1,500 products are delivered from here to address 80% of the most in-demand products of customers.
Currently about 20% of MAKRO’s customers in Tenerife use FSD service, receiving their orders in less than 24 hours. With this new depot, the company hopes to raise the share by 18% within the 1st year of operation. The new opening also stresses MAKRO’s solid commitment to the sustainable growth of the hospitality sector of the entire Canary Islands, where about 17,000 customers (out of a total of 61,000) operate in the gastronomy business, served so far by three wholesale stores.
Over the recent years, MAKRO Spain has been vigorously pushing forward its multi-channel strategy that sets the target of raising the FSD sales share to 45% by 2030. Today the company operates an extensive and efficient network that consists of two national logistics centres in Quer (Guadalajara) and Getafe (Madrid) that supply stores and regional delivery depots, four regional FSD depots in El Prat (Barcelona), Galdácano (Vizcaya), Leganés (Madrid) and La Laguna (Tenerife) respectively, complemented by store-converted Multichannel Fulfillment Centres and transit points for the last-mile delivery.
